One light

"One light was a very fun and informative class! Through the teaching of TJ, and interaction with the other classmates, I learned a lot about observing and using light. What's more, TJ was not a teacher that encourages us to buy lots of equipments. Instead, he advocates a minimalistic approach, which is wonderful for hobby photographers like myself, who does not really want to invest in a truckload of equipments. Two thumbs up!" — Nicholas Tan

"Simplicity is an Art and not many guru are able to transfer that knowledge when it comes to Portrait Photography. After attending his workshop I begin to understand that less is better. But what I like most is that he makes you feel at home and his ability to brings up the communication skill most of us are lacking when talking to our subject.I would recommend this workshop to all my friend however young or old. But I must warn you that don’t attempt to make it any more simple because it might become a disaster. Like the saying goes... Don’t be too smart as it will create an ass of you and me." — Jerry Low

"One Light is a very enlightening workshop. I thought I know much about light for photography but it open my eyes and thoughts about the almost infinite possibilities & creativity of using just that one light. Tiong Jin breaks down the process of light, and also emphasize on importance of photographer and talent interaction, and not much on one's gear. If you are new, or thinking that you are begining to understand light; Expect the unexpected when you take this class. Highly recommended!" — Nelson Foo

"I absolutely agreed with the idea put gear setting aside and hands on on the shoot to have better understanding ( Else messy as Everybody not using the same equipment ). I also like idea of demonstration how those equipment behave with light in term of angle and distance. After the seminar, I had also learned important of communication with talent/model. Duplicating of light and how to use reflector, diffuser etc to have better lighting to get great image." — Kevin Ooi
(As in seminar, all the user not using the same camera, flash ... if allow them to ask about setting and probably some of them might not totally understanding their equipment well ( me also) . Therefore the situation may become messy and may be a drag on seminar)

"At One Light, you are reminded that photography is not about fancy equipment but about controlling and capturing light with very basic equipment that most photographers already have. Whether it is with sunlight, LED light or flashlight, Tiong Jin demonstrated how beautiful portraits can be done with just one light!" — Linee Yeo

"This is a well paced and easy to understand session that is best cater to pros and enthusiasts who already have a good understanding of their own gears but wish to know more insights to making a good portraiture for their clients. The "cream" of this session is it focuses on the "less is more" approach, that forces the student to understand the soft skills and fundermental lighting principles to make a good portrait, without overwhelming them with gears and technical knowledge which may not be necessary in many situations. The 'toppings' are you get to know more photographer friends thanks to the interactive nature of the class and receive a set of interesting portraits of yourself. Highly recommended!" — Charles Sng

"The course was perfect for the intent. Good class size, balanced means of teaching with a mix of personal sharing and practical experience. I'm not one to play too much with artificial lighting, thus this workshop is perfect for my intent of re-creating natural light via minimalistic artificial means. Re-emphasized the need to observe more to get the right setting (and less clicks) for a good portrait, a lesson which also applies to any form of photography. However the best part of this course is yourself as a mentor and a coach, being frank at all times that simple gears, less clicks, and more meaningful communication are sufficient ingredients for great photography. Testimonials are apparent with the immediate results that most participants can deliver during the course itself. I'd close this by mentioning that: One light = Tiong Jin." — Muhammad Ashiq

"Light is the essence behind photography. Through his <One Light> lesson, TJ has developed an interesting, hands-on approach to convey how different types of light can shape the photos we take. By focusing on the fundamentals and avoiding technical jargon and complexities, TJ has managed to make the learning journey a delightful one - how we can sometimes achieve the same effect with maybe less. Essentially, the soul behind the camera is the cornerstone of a good photograph, and the limitations of the environment can often be countered with flexibility, innovation and adaptability." — Eric Chua
