Our goal is to complete 52 basecamps by year’s end—what do you think, are we on track to crush it?
Get your camping gear ready — we’ll see you out there on [Coming Soon!]
Just so you know, the next basecamp date isn’t chosen by my mood swings—it’s fully dictated by the weather forecast. Mother Nature’s the boss, I’m just her messenger!
At TJBBQ basecamp, we believe that camping, glamping and barbecue are more than just activities — they are a curated lifestyle. We are a community for those who love the great outdoors, the thrill of cooking over an open fire, and the freedom to embrace nature's raw beauty.
"Eat wild, live free" captures the essence of who we are: a group of adventurers who find joy in the untamed, savoring bold flavors and stories under the stars.
Our mission is to bring together those who share a passion for open-fire cooking, creating unforgettable experiences around the campfire. Whether you’re an expert in grilling or just starting, our community is here to exchange knowledge, learn new techniques, and celebrate the simple joy of excellent barbecue food and good company.
We look forward to meeting you, sharing meats, swapping stories, and connecting over the art of barbecue in the wild. Welcome to a place where every flame tells a story, and every meal brings us closer to the freedom of nature.
Love,
Tiong Jin - Founder of TJBBQ basecamp.
It’s not every day you meet someone who used to camp and cook outdoors a ton… then just stopped! But today, the flame was reignited and it felt so good having him back at basecamp. Together, we grilled, chilled, and conquered both Turf & Surf with some juicy Wagyu Sliders to seal the night!

I’ve ditched my usual East Coast hangout for a fresh plot at Changi Beach. It’s a mini adventure: recce mission, nature vibes, and decoding the local rulebook like an outdoor Indiana Jones. No rule-breaking here though — especially not on this fishing turf… mainly because my “tent” is actually a 2.6m-wide fishing umbrella. Let’s just say I’m camping incognito!
So, what’s cookin’ next? I’m fired up to observe, learn, and spice things up for an even better camping and barbecue experience. Hope you’re ready to jump in, share your saucy stories, and sizzle with us at the next basecamp.
Thanks a bunch — see you by the flames soon!
Thank you, AikBeng for dropping by for breakfast with your Brompton.
After every basecamp, we huddle up, swap war stories, and figure out how to camp smarter—better packing, smoother setups, and tastier grub. But hey, with the weather doing its wild thing, the safest bet (for now) is to pack for ourselves!
So until you roll in with your tent, we’ll be “accidentally” leaving you off the guest list. Thanks for not taking it personally! Here’s a peek at the solo pack loadout: minimalist mode vs. bonus round with the trusty work MacBook and a few sneaky extras.
TJBBQ Basecamp #004 – The Solo Saga Begins!
Rockin’ my new one-man camping setup – minimal gear, maximum vibes. Mission: pack light enough to hop on public transport like a stealthy outdoor ninja. No cooking this round, just a pure test run to see if this solo style is as cool as it sounds. The verdict? Heck yes it is! Party of one, and it’s a blast!
Taking the MRT? Here's how to get to East Coast Park, Area D Campsite: Disembark at Marine Terrace MRT. Before heading in, fuel up with a meal or grab supplies at Marine Terrace Market or the coffee shop at Block 59. For a broader selection, Giant at Block 56 is nearby. From there, it’s a short and easy walk across the Siglap Park Connector’s overhead bridge—perfect to ease into that camp-ready mindset.

We are excited to announce that our first camping and barbecue outing is set for Saturday, March 1st, at Pasir Ris Park, Area 1, Barbecue Pit 15. If you share a passion for camping and barbecue, feel free to reach out—I’d be happy to get you on board for this gathering. Looking forward to seeing you there!
Tinkering with my current gear to see what magic I can whip up with minimal spending! Upgraded my portable Iwatani Butane Stove & Charcoal Stove setup using a Weber Grilling Rack and Deluxe Grilling Basket as the base support. The result? Rock-solid stability and a setup that looks as good as it cooks!
Slapped down two chunky LÄMPLIG bamboo chopping boards as the ultimate worktop, transforming my black wagon trolley into *The Feast Station*—rock-solid, sleek, and serving up some seriously good-looking vibes! Now, what started as a simple camping & barbecue vibe is levelling up to full-on glamping & barbecue bliss.
Bringing the outdoor dining vibes to the next level with MUJI’s finest— a classy Porcelain Beige Bowl, sleek Yellow Cedar Chopsticks, and a trusty Stainless Steel Dessert Spoon. And of course, no feast is complete without a bottle of Jinro Soju to keep the good times flowing!
Introducing my genius invention: 2 litre and 5 litre consumable ice packs! They keep your beer frosty, your raw ingredients fresh, and—drumroll, please—double as a refreshing drink when they melt. It’s like an ice pack with a bonus round!
Stay cool, stay hydrated, and let’s pretend I just reinvented water.
If your chicken wings look like they survived a house fire on the outside but are still raw in the middle, chances are your heat is way too high! The flames are working overtime on the skin while the meat hasn’t even clocked in for the day. But don’t sweat it! Check out the beautifully grilled wings from our TJBBQ basecamp 1st cookout.
The secret? A few clever tweaks to the barbecue pit at Pasir Ris Park—raising the hot coals, setting up a two-zone system, and adjusting the grill height. These little tricks create a gentle, even heat that lets you master the art of low-and-slow open-fire barbecue. Game changer!
